Is there a way to combine 2 articulations with key swithes?

I am using a combination of longs and staccatissimo I can combine them in the BBCSO app using the shift key but if I put both articulations in the midi piano roll it chooses only one. Is it possible to combine the key switches?

    Hi @Doc Bob

You should be able to select two articulations at the same time using shift + click as you mention.

Unfortunately, selecting more than one articulation via Keyswitching is not yet a feature, but our team are aware of this request already.

You can do this already if you set your articulation trigger to MIDI channel and set a different MIDI channel for each articulation. Then stack 2 notes on top of each other each with the articulations you want to happen at the same time. I only use MIDI channels for articulation changes, no more clumsy keyswitching.

  • Anyone have an idea?

Well, if nobody reacts, chances are that your post may have to act as inspiration for SA. 🤓👍️

Since their plugin is open to do anything it wishes with incoming Midi data, they could implement solutions for that in any possible way. Be that based on two keyswitches at the exact same time, or at some given time-interval threshold (possibly parametric), the plugin could be written to stack articulations, either with no limit (any number of articulations could get stacked) or possibly some sensible combinations (stac/long, trem/sus, whatever made any sense). Certainly this could get dicey, because of memory usage and/or other performance related challenges.

Hmmm, imagine, if it could use the velocity of keyswitches to control expression of that articulation or as parameter value that could be routed (lowpass, vibrato, anything really)? Uhhh... that could be exciting for stacking.

So, if anything, you may have brought up a great inspiration for some future improvements!? 😃

OK. The workaround is to keep combo articulations on separate tracks. Hopefully there’ll be a keyswitch fix in time.

    Thanks for the replies😀

  • I'll add my vote for the ability to have 'two articulations at the same time' being switched on at the same time, without having to use the computer keyboard and Shift to do so.

Maybe..being able to have a 'user preset' of your chosen 'duo articulation'?

Being able to assing your own MIDI control or keyswitch to the new duo-articulation?

    That would be very handy!

    (Amazing product by the way)

  • July 2022, I posted in FB and it seems this is still not implemented? Any updates? I use multi keyswitches in Albion. Would like to be able to in BBCSO.

  • This hasn't worked for me. I have a project in which I have several percussion "instruments" pointing to the same instance of BBC SO Core, but using different MIDI channels. I have configured the BBC SO instance so that, e.g. the bass drum is channel 1 and the snare is channel 2. I did this by making a new user preset for untined percussion instruments. I disabled the key switches, and assigned each "articulation" (actually, each different instrument such as triangle, snare) to its own MIDI channel instead. But when two different articulations are played, only one of them sounds.

  • It seems to be specific to Untuned Percussion (possibly others; too early in the morning to go digging through every instrument, lol).

Out of curiosity while checking another post, I pulled up Violins 1, set two of the articulations to the same Keyswitch value (in this case, Long and Staccato as C#-1), after which playing any note in range for the instrument played BOTH articulations at the same time. I imagine this might be a useful "feature" where someone wants to use a particular combination of techniques for some passages, but be able to keyswitch in/out of individual/multiple techniques within the same track/instance. This basically allows the user to configure how the instance should respond to any particular keyswitch (which kind of seems how "settings" like this should work anyway, eh?), and then just act accordingly when received. Of course, that would mean you can't use the same technique both individually and in combination with another on the same track (not via the Keyswitch method anyway, unless they change the plug-in to allow the same technique to be added more than once), but could still be useful. Not sure whether this "by design" or just "coincidental", but definitely interesting...🤔

For Untuned Percussion, as Angus mentioned, it seems the devs are aware of the request, and we'll just need to wait and see how they approach it.

  • Hello,

    I'm using Logic Pro X.

For some reason, my Cello Lead from BBCSO Pro is playing two articulations on the first note it plays (whether starting in the middle of a phrase or not.) The extra articulation is pizz, which sounds horrible given I want legato. I've even unloaded the pizz articulation and it still happens.

In addition, whenever I click a note in the piano roll, it plays as pizz, but plays correctly at playback, with the addition of the first note. Any help is much appreciated!

  • Hello. Have you tried to reset the instrument yet? what version of the BBC SO module do you have installed? What trigger do you use to cast the techniques?

Try resetting the instrument, maybe that will work.

I also use Logic Pro X, before I used program change to trigger the techniques, but now I use the CC32 MIDI controller and have version 1. 7.0.

Version 1.7.0 is having a lot of problems, if you don't solve it I recommend you open a support ticket

I think I have identified it, it is a problem that occurs in some notes, which are already recorded with the error, that is, it is not that the pizz sampler is triggered. Otherwise both techniques are recorded together.

     Try Layer-2 or Layer+2

I have found the problem in the F4 and only in the notes that are linked. For example, in this passage the first F4 has no problem, while the second has the pizz problem.

in which notes did you find the problem?

  • Hello,

I did try resetting and reloading the instruments. I was using V. 1.5, but am now downloading 1.7.0.

I use articulation maps based off of keyswitches.

No luck using layers plus or minus 2.

The note that is the problem is G1 (two Gs below middle C in case you use C4 as middle C). I've also noticed some scrapes an almost all legato starts that seem much louder than normal (i.e. not just normal bow noise).

Happy to create a ticket if needed, but definitely need a solution ASAP, as this score is due this weekend.
