macOS Big Sur
Super excited that Pro Tools is now compatible with macOS Big Sur. I've checked with all the various software and plug-in manufactures I use, and pretty much everyone is up to speed.
However the Spitfire plug-in based instruments don't seem to be. Has anyone tried the update to Big Sur? And what kinda bugs have you run in to if so?

Hi @Teddy Blass,
There are currently no known issues when running our plugins and Kontakt libraries on Big Sur. However, we are not yet fully compatible if you are using an M1 chipset device.
All the best,
Angus

Hello Angus -
I have been using an M1 Mac since early February. I have nearly 20 Spitfire libraries and have had no issues using them with Logic under Rosetta. Am I just getting lucky or are these libraries found to be all working perfectly for everyone?

@Donald yes currently, as long as you run the Spitfire App and your DAW in Rosetta, our plugins are completely functional. If you wish to run the betas they are also available in the link below. They require manual authorisation via Terminal, instructions of which can be found on each product M1 page.

I'm using Spitfire plugins with an M1 Mac on Big Sur. No problems with Rosetta!

@Angus So, for the avoidance of doubt, (and disappoinment!) my M1 Mac Mini running Big Sur 11.2 with 16GB memory, and Logic 10.6.1 WILL WORK..? 😀 Want to purchase the SSD Pro version - Regards, Michael

@Angus PS Further to my earlier post, not sure if Logic 10.6.1 is running in Rosetta - as it is Apple I assume it is optimised for M1? If this is the case, will the BBC Symphony plugin library function Ok in Rosetta? TIA

I was able to get BBCSO and Logic 10.6 running on my M1 MacBook Pro under Big Sur (11.2). I had to do two things:
1) Logic is in Rosetta mode
2) Spitfire Audio app in Rosetta mode (repaired all libraries in Rosetta mode).
Not sure these instructions are definitive, but they worked for me.

Thanks @[email protected] for that! Appreciate it.
I have now seen that elsewhere too, but all that "repairing libraries" seems a bit nuts! I have a query in with 'customre support' now, to find out when they will have the fully compatible Apple Carbon version to release - the Beta is out ther after all.
It's a HUGE investment for the Pro version (and I was going to get it on the SSD too) - so I really want it to work straight 'out of the box'!!! Thanks again.

@Michael Omer just to confirm, BBC SO will work on Mac M1 either by using our Betas to run Natively in Logic or Garageband, or by using Rosetta mode with Logic and the Spitfire Audio App.
Please note that we have currently found 11.2.2 OS update has a bug that has dropped support for Rosetta. We're awaiting more detail on this from Apple.

Thank you for the reply. Excited to upgrade!

You shouldn't see much any performance changes between ARM versions vs Rosetta version / intel versions. Ram will be consistent. Best way to make RAM improvements would be to remove unused articulations from the patches you use.

I've been using Spitfire plugins on both an M1 Macbook running Big Sur and an Intel desktop running Big Sur without any issues with Logic Pro X.

I have a 2018 Mac Mini running Catalina 10.15.7 and using Logic Pro X. Am using many Spitfire libraries with no issues. Am hesitant to upgrade to Big Sur. Can anyone provide insight / experience upgrading a 2018 Mac Mini to Big Sur and share your results? Thanks in advance...

Angus….I have a 2018 Mac Mini running Catalina 10.15.7 and using Logic Pro X. Am using many Spitfire libraries with no issues. Am hesitant to upgrade to Big Sur because of comparability issues. Bottom line question is should I go to Big Sur or stay with Catalina?

Salve, quando sarà possibile usare Bbc Orchestra, ma anche gli altri plugin Spitfire su Logic Pro senza Rosetta?

@pablovox I know my answer comes late, but as a rule of thumb, it's usually advisable to upgrade, once the next version of macOS is announced. For example: It's usually safe to upgrade to Big Sur once Apple unveils macOS Monterey. By that point most developers should have their software made compatible.
