Toujours Rien

Hey everyone,

I purchased BBCSO Core a few months ago, but never really had the chance to work on an actual track.

I was recently asked to produce a 4 minutes soundtrack for a very (very) underground animation short, and thought it would be interesting to share it here to get some feedback and thoughts on what to improve.

Disclaimer: not properly mixed yet + tons of phrases already heard, but don't know where. I'm way too easily influenced...

Cheers!

Fabien

Edit: Looks like Soundcloud widget has issues finding the track. It is available here https://soundcloud.com/fabien_benard/toujours-rien.

  • Oh wow! It's got that awesome dark, whimsical feel to it? Like almost fantasy horror. I loved the grand pauses and texture/timbral shifts. You really nailed the "tenuto quarter notes"; they had a natural attack and release about them. Great job automating those. I don't have the best ears , but I'll double check the mix tomorrow to see if anything sticks out :)

Initial thoughts: more hall reverb might be appropriate given the grandiose nature of the music; I feel like the highs might have gotten cut out by SoundCloud compression (again, I'll have to check this later on actual monitors)

  • After a second listen, I stand by the extra hall reverb. I think it could greatly enhance your sudden tuttis to silence. I think the highs are fine.

  • I think this could definitely convince me to invest time and money in BBCSO.

  • Thanks Gregory for your feedback, I will definitely try to add hall reverb.
