Big Problem With My Music PC

Hi all,

This morning, both my PC's needed to update Windows 10

One pc is for everyday use with internet, the other pc is my music with all my software and libraries but is not connected to the internet.

I connect it every now and then to update libraries and software.

So i restarted both pc's to update Windows 10. The main pc (the one i'm on now) took about 15 mins to update.

I went into the studio and the music pc won't start. It comes on then instantly shuts down in a continuous loop. It was doing this for about 10 mins so I turned it off completely then restarted it and it just goes back to the loop.

Has anyone got an idea what's going on with it?

Imagine turning on your pc, even before you get the beep it shuts down then tries to restart again. not even a second. I have been told I may have to try updating ther bios with a flash drive so i'm going to give that a try.

  • Hello @Keith Theodosiou

What Make and model is the music pc?

    What update installed ? Windows 10 20h2?

  • The computer is a PC Specialist Vortex Fusion Pro.

What a day so far, Virgin Media decide to shut my internet so they can do work on it for a few hours lol.

Anyway i now have downloaded the latest bios for the Asus MB and I managed to get the pc started with the reset button. It is still halway through the windows update but when it restarts the pc, it won't start again and I have to keep using the reset button till it starts again.

I don't know what version is being installed as yet but on this pc the update was 2004.

Once the music pc is up and running I will update the bios as this may be the reason it's all gone haywire with the new Windows update

Take a look at the link I sent. Here's an excerpt from it. The fact that your internet provider shut you off may be why you could get in.

    From the link I posted...

"Sometimes (especially in 10) updates, including those that come after a reset, can get the computer stuck. It happens when an update fails, for whatever reason, and the device continually tries to get it to install over and over. Leaving you 'stuck'. Until you take away its ability to continue trying the update, hence the no WiFi, then it should load.

    Or

    Step 1

make sure the pc is not connected to the internet in any way before you use the following instructions."

Also, from 2004 it should update to 20H2, when that's done it will most likely prompt for another newer update from last week which is 21H1. The only reason I'm familiar with this is because in my day job (SQA Engineer at Avid- Pro Tools - Media Composer) I deal with this stuff all the time :-). It's a pain. Good luck.

  • This is the update:

I have just spent an hour on the phone with a PC Specialist technician and he was very helpfull.

We went through everything including GPU, RAM, C Drive and anything else that sits in the tower lol

His conclution is: not Window 10 related it is actually the motherboard at fault and just so happend to pack up as the pc was restarting halfway through the Windows 10 update.

I have two months left on the 3 yr warranty but i would have to send the pc up to them near Manchester and they would have it for ages so for the sake of a Β£60 motherboard i can buy from Amazon next day del, I told him I will change it myself.

As long as I am carefull with the CPU it should be ok as I have done that plenty of times in my time lol.

So thanks for your replies and hopefully I will sort it out.

If I do happen to mess it all up, I still have my laptop I can use in place of the desktop and if all else fails, i can use this desktop i'm on now, that will just mean upgading the RAM from the music pc to this one and re installing some of my libraries.

It's just all a bit of a pain in the arse πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • Update to the update:

I have ordered the motherboard and that comes on Saturday. Going that long without a music computer is hard lol.

Anyway my new Yamaha P-45 turns up so I set it up and tried it out, lovely action.

I obviously can't run it through the music pc so I decide to put my laptop there and guess what.....

I start it up and I get an orange flashing light. I google what it means, yeah the battery has had it and i need a new one.

At least I can use it with the power cable but what I want to know is...

    Whats going on!!

It all starts packing up at the same time lol
