BBC SO Gliss

Anyone know if there's a way to control the length of a gliss with BBC spitfire orchestra strings?

If not, are there any virtual instruments out there that can?

    Hi @Haider

You can find tips on how to get a Portamento slide using BBC SO Legato in the video below. Additionally, if you wish to have a fast run, the best technique to use is Legato, with low velocity for smoother transitions. There are no specific Gliss patches in BBC SO, apart from the static patches found in the Harp.

  • How terrible would a standard midi pitch bend sound for this? Is that even an option?

Obvious noob that is considering BBCSO but writes lots of long glissandi...

@JeebsFat we tend to disable Pitch Bend on many of our orchestral based sample libraries, as this often does not produce a realistic, non-synth like result. The best work around would be to use the Legato techniques to trigger portamentos and slurs.

  • That makes total sense.

How does the slur works as compared to legato or portamento? Can the transition be slowed down to produce a slow gliss-like effect? Am I correct on understanding that the portamento articulation cannot be slowed down in this way?

I'm guessing I'll need actual players to achieve these kinds of specific gestures.

    Thanks for your responses!

HI @JeebsFat, the Portamento and Slide length cannot be changed or edited. Lower velocity will trigger a slower transition, whilst higher velocity will trigger a faster and more accented transition.
