Yaha, I thought it was a stroke of genius to pick this subject, assuming it would yield far less submissions. But then it did, too, didn't it? Wasn't there something like 11,000 submissions on the first contest? With 2.2k this method does seem to have worked after all. 🤭
But there are loads of absolutely beautiful pieces. Many times the music itself that came out of this has been absolutely delightful and down right excellent.
Really, though, if the first few seconds don't suggest some sort of promise, I'm sure it will quickly get sorted. I have no idea how well mine will do in that regard, but it's something I will certainly keep in mind for future rounds! 😎

This was a lot of fun to score, with great characters, strong emotion, really well-done show. I confess I didn't watch Bridgerton or the S1 E5 episode until I was done with my score so I had a clean slate, seemed to work for me :-).
Really great talent here, what a great community, best of luck to all!

I already hoped for some non-action scene this year! Didn't think I would eventually end up with this combination of Spitfire libraries I would use in my score for a show like Bridgerton: Albion Solstice, BBC Symphony Orchestra Pro and Olafur Arnalds Stratus. Any feedback is welcome!

Right up the the deadline! Here's mine... (Excuse the long post, but I had fun doing this one a bit differently...)
Entirely produced using BBCSO Pro #oneorchestra (I like having to arrange every section independently. No shortcuts. Helps me learn!)
It's very straightforward - no synths, or soundscapes. Just BBCSO. So no prizes for being cutting edge I guess. But it felt right...
I did a few things differently for this one:
I was away from my DAW for much of the time, so I composed the piano sketch entirely by playing (badly) live to the video, over and over again, until I had the cues and the hit points perfect. I think that worked really well - getting the composition done without distraction.
It was then really quick to play that into the DAW, and get it quantised and tempo mapped ready to start work.
Once I started orchestrating, I only recorded CC1 - the dynamics, with no CC11 (volume). I've always used two faders to record both at once (just like all the Spitfire youtube videos...), but I think it really helped me to just use dynamics. If it didn't go loud enough, I had to arrange it differently...
I've also been reading a few books on music theory. So I tried to put a little of that in practice. A bit of key modulation, a change of time signature, a four part counterpoint arrangement for strings. I've done everything by ear until now - so this simple stuff was pretty exciting for me! (Check out Alan Belkin's book on composition, and his youtube series on harmony, counterpoint and orchestration.)

Serious thanks to Spitfire for running these competitions - they've allowed me to to try composing to picture, just for fun, and discover I love it..! And best of luck to all the professional talented composers out there - I look forward to listening to your winning entries.

Hello Everyone.
This is my entry for this year's Spitfire Audio Competition.
This was hands down, the most challenging scene of all the competitions I have been in.
I know i'm still pretty green and that it's not the most unique, but I'm quite proud of my 2 and a half year progress.
feedback is much appreciated, i would like to know how my music can improve for the future
Good luck to everyone.
