My contribution.
Some notes about my process if you’re interested:
* I sketched up everything on piano first, to get the timing and tempos. Much of the orchestration was included, albeit abbreviated/approximated. Since the beginning and end of the clip are in the middle of a scene, I wrote the music that way too.
* I used more tempo changes than you can poke a stick at, for musical reasons and to time the scene changes. Additionally, the tempo in the corridor scene more or less matches the Queen’s steps (not perfect because the video edits are a bit out). I tapped each step more or less in time with the visuals then converted to tempo, creating constant slight tempo changes in that scene.
* Major changes of mind: 1) Opening title (three versions), 2) Scene in carriage (two versions). Struggled to get the opening title music simple enough yet memorable. I thought the title music was important because it could be reused between episodes.
* Instruments: all the usual orchestral instruments. Solo woods, section+solo brass & strings. Percussion: timpani, glock, celesta, piano. Soprano choir.
* The arrangement repeats elements subtly. (Can you guess which elements?) I intentionally shared the parts across the entire orchestra - for specific ‘colours’ and because musicians don’t like to be left out.
* More major keys than usual for me in the list of key changes: E, Em, F, Cm, Dm, F, Ab, C#.
* I avoided hearing the official Bridgerton music until I had finished. I was genuinely surprised when I heard it, it’s nothing like what I expected.

This competition is amazing, as it shows the vast differences in creative style and possibilities for the provided clip. I'm blown away by all the scores I've watched so far, and how different, but professional so many of them are! Congratulations everyone. I'll drop mine in here to share, too. Happy to hear feedback too. Best of luck in the competition!

My first scoring competition. I am quite new in making film music and I only do this as a hobby, but I thought 'Why not give it a try?'. I must say, I don't know the tv series and I haven't listened to the original soundtrack before, so everthing I got for creating my piece of music was the provided scene, its look and the dialogues.
Good luck to everyone and thank you Spitfire Audio, Netflix and Kris Bowers for that great opportunity!

Hello everybody! I entered, then talked my father into submitting an entry as well. He is a talented composer that used to work on a mini documentary series for many years called day of discovery. He always encouraged my musical attempts. This is my second or third attempt at a video score. So here is my entry and his.

Here is my entry !
No harpsichord here (too much seventeen century !) but something more like a "Schubertiade" with a piano and a very small strings ensemble.
Can you hear the original main theme at the beginning ?
Feel free to comment !
