Sometimes delayed playback

Hi there. If I playback a string in cubase, sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds until string sound "kicks in". at beginning no sound at all even though the midi key was played. this happens also when exporting, and even if I increase to max buffer size. What can be the reason? Thanks

As Taron mentions, this could be the high buffer, but the length of delay could also point to the samples being stored on a slow hard drive. If you are storing externally, we recommend SSDs with a transfer speed above 500mb/s.

Which "max buffer size"? Because if you were to increase the buffer size on your audio engine, it would create even more delay. You'd want it to be as small as possible, depending on the performance power of your machine.
